Job Description

NetImpact Strategies is seeking a Scientific Computing Engineer to provide comprehensive systems administration and support for our High-Performance Computing (HPC) clusters, virtual server environments, and diverse data storage systems within a Federal Healthcare agency. This role demands deep technical expertise in a range of technologies and a proactive approach to maintaining and enhancing scientific computing resources to support research initiatives. 

This role is onsite in Bethesda, MD. 

Responsibilities: 

  • Basic support for scientific software such BioRender, BioSig, SQANTI, cDNA_Cupcake, longbow, SMRTLink tool suite, Graphpad, Imaris, Dragonfly 3D, DNAStar Lasergene, MATLAB, SnapGene, Anaconda environments using Python 2 & 3, with required python packages. 
  • Demonstrated experience administering and a functional knowledge of RedHat/CentOS/Scientific Linux, Perl/Python, shell scripting, Sun Grid Engine, Apache, VMware ESX, Microsoft SQL, MySQL, Oracle, CFEngine, Scylde, Coraid, Isilon, Dell EMC Data Domain, and NexSAN 
  • Advanced Linux administrative, solution engineering in a scientific environment and troubleshooting skills 
  • Interface with the scientific community effectively 
  • Executing complex scientific projects 
  • Moving data between microscopes, high performance computing (HPC), and enterprise storage 
  • Moving scientific data from non-networked microscopes to enterprise storage, designing remote access to microscopes, dashboards for the clinical director on tracking trials requirements, and coordinating with external universities in developing clinical dashboards. 
  • Knowledge securing scientific devices and developing compensating controls for equipment that cannot be patched or needs to be patched manually (clinical systems) or with the assistance of the scientific vendors 
  • Evaluate and recommend software and hardware solutions, including Commercial Off-The-Shelf (COTS) options, for clinical and scientific protocols 
  • Administer and optimize HPC clusters, Linux servers, NAS, SANs, and relational databases. 
  • Support the installation, maintenance, and enhancement of both commercial and open-source scientific software. 
  • Troubleshoot complex software issues, particularly those arising from command-line and web-based applications. 
  • Collaborate closely with researchers to understand evolving needs and provide technical solutions that enhance research capabilities. 
  • Develop and execute project plans that include system upgrades and new technology deployments. 

Qualifications

Required

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field. 
  • Proficiency in RedHat/CentOS/Scientific Linux, Perl/Python, and shell scripting. 
  • Experience with VMware ESX, Microsoft SQL, MySQL, Oracle, and various scientific computing software. 
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work collaboratively with a diverse team. 
  • Excellent communication skills and a service-oriented attitude. 

 

Preferred 

  • Previous Federal Consulting Experience
