Job Description

NetImpact Strategies is seeking a skilled Backstage Developer to join our engineering team. In this role, you will be instrumental in building and evolving an internal developer portal for our customer using the Backstage platform. You will work closely with cross-functional teams to enhance the developer experience, drive efficiency, and promote self-service capabilities across our technology ecosystem.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop, customize, and maintain the Backstage platform to align with development workflows.
  • Integrate internal and external tools (CI/CD pipelines, monitoring, documentation systems, cloud services, etc.) into the Backstage portal.
  • Build and maintain custom Backstage plugins and templates to support internal tooling and service onboarding.
  • Collaborate with DevOps, SREs, and application development teams to identify productivity gaps and implement effective portal solutions.
  • Drive automation and improve operational visibility by leveraging Backstage’s extensibility.
  • Ensure the developer portal is performant, secure, and aligned with technology strategy.
  • Stay current with Backstage community updates and best practices.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Hands-on experience with Backstage and its ecosystem.
  • Proficiency in Node.js, React, and TypeScript.
  • Strong understanding of DevOps practices, CI/CD tools, and cloud-native technologies.
  • Experience working with APIs (REST, GraphQL) and microservices architecture.
  • Familiarity with Git and common version control workflows.

Preferred:

  • Experience contributing to Backstage plugins or other open-source projects.
  • Knowledge of Kubernetes, Docker, and major cloud providers (AWS, Azure, GCP).
  • Experience with internal developer platforms or developer experience initiatives.
  • Understanding of software cataloging and documentation tools like TechDocs.
  • Previous Federal Consulting Experience.
