Job Description

We are seeking a detail-oriented and highly motivated Staff Accountant to join our growing Professional Services accounting team. This role plays a key part in supporting day-to-day accounting operations, vendor invoicing, and financial close activities within a government contracting environment. The ideal candidate brings a strong accounting foundation, excellent attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining accuracy and compliance.

 

Key Responsibilities:

Accounts Payable, Purchase Orders & Expense Management

  • Own the end-to-end accounts payable process, ensuring timely, accurate, and compliant processing of vendor invoices.
  • Review vendor invoices against approved purchase orders and receiving documentation, performing three-way matching (PO, receipt/Timesheet, invoice) to verify accuracy, pricing, quantities, and authorization.
  • Identify, research, and resolve discrepancies related to purchase orders, receiving issues, or invoicing variances in coordination with Contracts, project managers, and vendors.
  • Independently issue, review, and manage purchase orders, verifying approvals, funding availability, accurate account and project coding, and alignment with contract terms and internal control policies.
  • Maintain and update vendor master files, ensuring completeness, accuracy, and compliance.
  • Proactively review AP aging reports to maintain timely vendor payments, prevent overdue balances, and resolve discrepancies with vendors and internal stakeholders.
  • Own the weekly vendor payment cycle, including ACH and wire payments, while ensuring appropriate approvals, accurate payment amounts, and adherence to internal controls.
  • Manage and monitor the accounts payable mailbox, ensuring all incoming vendor invoices are captured, reviewed, and entered promptly so no invoices are missed or delayed.
  • Review, audit, and process employee expense reports to ensure expenses are properly authorized, supported, and compliant with company policy.
  • Perform corporate credit card reconciliations and resolve discrepancies in a timely manner.
  • Assist with audits, ad hoc accounting projects, and financial reporting requests.
  • Actively support month-end and year-end close processes, including reconciliations and required schedules.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field. 
  • 7+ years of experience managing software/application development projects. 
  • Hands-on experience with Agile and/or hybrid project methodologies. 
  • Strong skills in project planning and risk management. 
  • Ability to communicate with Senior Level stakeholders  
  • Ability to execute delivery on time and with excellent quality 
  • Experience working with geographically distributed teams 
  • Familiarity with Microsoft platforms (e.g., Power Platform, .NET), ServiceNow, and/or AWS 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. 

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Commercial software product development and management experience 
  • PMP, CSM, or equivalent project management certification. 
  • Prior experience with ServiceNow development lifecycle. 
  • Experience with Microsoft DevOps, Jira, or similar tools. 
  • Background in Federal or regulated IT environments. 
  • Exposure to UX/UI principles and accessibility standards.
